I have the menhaden oil but shrimp been working well. I would think Drum would like that crab oil but our Drum catches were well below keeper stage this year.
Thanks for the info.
Didn't want to brag but since you mentioned drum this was in the morning
The name weakfish refers to their mouth. Hooks pull out easy. Have to fight them gently. The have a single tooth right in the roof of their mouth for holding bait fish. Used to fish for them with shedder crabs. Still carry a bottle of crab oil to flavor baits.
Nice fish fly tier. I have always been curious, are they a true Trout?
Not even close. They are actually in the weskfish family.. in NC it's grey trout and speckled trout. Near me we don't see many specks. They are mostly southern. The grays we call weakfish and are a lot more scarce than they were in the seventies. Back then a big one was15 or 20 pounds. That was spring run. Now you're lucky if you catch one at all and it will be around a pound.
If you're near the Outer Banks one popular way to fish is a gold Hopkins shorty spoon dragged low and slow for puppy drum. Not a consistent bite but you can have good days.
I started using Maui Jim sunglasses. I had a problem with the one hinge so I sent them back and they sent me a new pair and I have the same problem with the same hinge on that pair. I glued the hinge so we wouldn't break any more and I keep them in the truck for driving. On the beach I use Oakley's now. They have one model which is tinted specifically 4 Fishing.
For me the most important thing is protection from sunlight. My eyes are very sensitive and without sunglasses I'm finished before I start. They protect your eyes lens from ultraviolet if they're coated properly. You can get sunburn on your eyes and it's no fun driving 75 miles home when you only have one eye open. The other reason was mentioned in the article was protection from branches and things. I always wear the glasses and my cowboy hat since I put a size 14 dry fly in my cheek because of a sudden gust of wind.
No plans for tonight yet. We'll see what the daughters and grandchildren want to do. Other than that it's love your family, be healthy and tight lines in the new year.
Somehow I nanaged to fish for 65 years plus and never heard of or saw a triggered reel. So tonight I searched trigger sounning reels and cane up with several Shimano reels with trigers. So now I have at least seen one .
