This past winter there was a topic about coughing, at times uncontrollably, especially trying to sleep. Just wondering what, if anything anyone did to make it better.
Thanks in advance for the advice.

Mine was from some form of a allergy Matt. Forced air heat just spreads that crap throughout the house. Claritin cleared mine up.

I was thinking that. I’m out in Oregon visiting the grandkids, and the blooming season is in full swing here.
We use an herbal tea called Olbas. Works great and doesn’t taste bad. It can be purchased at Amazon. $20 but well worth it.
Your cough sounds allergy related but I would like to mention what happened to my wife. She developed a cough that would be nonstop for 3 hours every morning. Long story short she went to the ENT, lung doctor and gastroenterologist and ran every test possible. $16,000 still had no answer. Finally I did my own research and we went to a neurologist. I was right. She has laryngeal sensory neuropathy. It is a damaged nerve in the larynx. The treatment is an antidepressant called amytriptiline. Cost me $4.95. It worked. She coughs now about 15 minutes.
Good luck. Lee me know if you try the Olbas. You might be able to find it at a vitamin or health food store.

Benadryl worked also Matt, but for me it was like taking a sleeping pill. Knocked me right out at night and groggy most of the following day.

Matt, I had that problem, & when it was accompanied with bloody yellow phlegm, I went to visit the doctor and found out I had bronchitis. Got meds for the problem, and in ten days, it was fixed.
You need to find out from a doctor if it's caused by bacteria or virus. If virus, like mine, it hung on for over five weeks. Bacterial there are meds for. Just now am I able to play my horn and tennis without coughing. It also robs all your energy fighting off the virus but eventually it goes away. They've nicknamed it the 100 day cough. Also a big rhinovirus going around now. Everyone at Hutch's garage has had it. Head fills up with gunk for about 5 days, then it goes away, and it's not allergies Doc said.
Stumper, glad you eventually found your wife's problem. Sorry it cost so much.
Thanks. I have good insurance so it didn’t really cost me that much. It was just frustrating trying to figure it out. I really recommend trying that Olbas tea. It really works. Have a nice day.

Will look into it. thanks
Thanks for everyone’s advice. I did the Benadryl and NyQuil combination, and that gave me more sleep last night than the last three combined.
At least I’m headed in the right direction.
I would be careful. I was coughing and breathless. So I went to immediate medical care. They said bronchitis and gave me some meds Last Saturday I was totally breathless, drove myself to the ER. Ended up at YALE for emergency surgery. Turns out it’s lung cancer ( not a death sentence)
Just got out yesterday, we go from here. Wishing u better

Years ago when I worked in the Casinos I would pick up a cough usually durin the winter.
The only thing I found that would finally quell it after work was a glass of whisky.
I tried other things but they just never would STOP the cough. But the whisky did.
I’ll have to try that. I didn’t mean to ramble about my wife’s cough. It is kind of a rare thing but I found that some of the doctors didn’t know about it. The neurologist did. They said the larynx could have been damaged when a tube was inserted during a surgery.
