Contrary to what young boys carry in their pockets today, or their being hooked on computer games, when I was a kid, we carried pocketknives all the time among other things.
From personal experience a sharp pocketknife is far safer to use than a dull one. A dull, unsharpened knife will require more than one attempt at cutting anything you are trying to cut, unless it is hot butter!
A dull knife blade requires much more force and may slip and cut you or the item you are attempting to cut in a unsatisfactory manner.
My father was raised before there were automobiles. He was more familiar with horses and working with teams. He could repair harnesses or repair our leather shoes. His pocket knife was always sharp as a razor. Pocket knives were essential to cut thick pieces of leather. He had other knives when he would be shoeing horses, to both clean the hooves, but also to trim their hooves around the new steel horseshoes. Just Sayin…RJS

I've been cut with dull knives more than with sharp ones.
Thanks Robert

Mr. Robert, I agree 💯 with you a dull knife is like a unloaded gun 😂 no use at all. I can't remember not carrying a pocket knife and my dad taught me how to sharpen it and keep it that way 👍 I have a collection of antiques knifes and have been passing them on to my grandkids, some with great stories behind them.. Glad to hear from you buddy 🙏
Agreed, a dull knife is pretty useless.
I always have my pocket knife with me if I have pants on me. If I don't have it, you can bet it wore a hole in the bottom of my pocket and fell out. Yes, I keep it sharp!

The only good thing about a dull knife is that it can be sharpened
I have dozens of pocket knives that I’ve collected over the years and my favorite is an easy opening stainless knife. It’s a bear to sharpen but keeps an edge for a long long time.
If anyone asked my Dad "You got a Knife" he would always say I have my Pants on don't I. Your Post brought back a Good Memory !!! Thanks

I carry a pocket knife in one pocket and a small sharpening stone in the other. Can't stand a dull knife.

On my 3 blade knifes I have two sharp then the sheep foot blade is for rough blade work
When a friend and I were stopped the Canadian boarder and asked all the normal questions.... guns, knives, horns, etc which we had none, were asked to pull around back and come inside.....once inside we were asked to empty our pockets on the counter.....we both had pocket knives.....the two boarder agents came unglued!!!!! We lied....I said when asked, that I was thinking they meant hunting knives.... ever since I was a kid I had a pocket knife!!! When it was all over, we got to keep our pocket knives.
