Looking on planning a fishing trip down to fort Peck this summer. Any advice on the following would be appreciated. Best time to go, places to camp, where to fish on the lake and what to use. I have my own boat and my wife, my 2 dogs and I will be there. Thanks in advance.

Hello fishingmike
I'm a rookie at fort peck but have fished it twice so here is what little I have learned so far.we stayed at glasgow at the cottonwood motel, launched out of the fort peck marina that has a small rv park, there's also a launch and rv park at hell creek but I believe that you must travel 25 or so miles of gravel rd to get to hell creek.
I have read that the heaviest walleye spawn happens in hell creek soon after ice out,the northern pike and lake trout will work the shallow bays that warm first
As the lake warms up the walleye disperse upstream and the Lakers drop to 60 to 90ft,the northern pike can be found with the walleye on points and dropouts.
Jig fishing will work for both walleye and Lakers, trolling cranks can help locate the active walleye, bottom bouncing with spinners night crawlers early and leaches later in the summer will work, casting or trolling spoons will get you in to northern pike most days.
I'm planning a trip early spring and hope to be there shortly after ice out, good luck and watch the weather closely it is a big lake and wind can come in quickly and it gets bad fast.

Fort peck is truly home to some gaint fish.
The wife's walleye was 32in and 10.5lb post spawn.

Thanks for your feedback. From what you have shared with me, I will most likely go in the spring. Never caught a walleye or northern pike. The northern pike is on my bucket list because I hear they put on a great fight. Since I only live about 5 miles from Flathead lake we have dialed in on the large lake trout. Do you know if they have any rainbows in the lake? Being a Flathead Lake fisherman with a 20 foot Thunderjet boat I constantly watch the weather on flathead lake, Thanks for sharing all this good information with me. Mike Monteith

The main trout fishing is in the river below the dam,but the lake has some great king salmon fishing late August, September.
Keep in mind that most of the information I'm passing on is second hand and I may be inaccurate but not intentionally.
Keep me posted on your results and meabey we can both learn.
Best of luck and tight lines

I have no affiliation at all, just had this information on my OnX tab.

Coming back from North Dakota my wife and I did a pre-scouting stop here. Didn’t have the boat or I might’ve stayed a couple days.
We missed this spring, but next spring we’re hoping to get over there with the boat.
Scott, I believe is the owner of the Marina was very helpful. He’s one of the local guides. He suggested we go out for a day with him. Learn the ropes so to speak and finish up the week on our boat. Makes good sense, I’ve never had my boat on the water there.
Hired a guide out of Hell Creek, I think it was a few years ago, but I wasn’t pay attention. We were too busy catching fish lol
