I took a bit of time for myself before visiting hours Wednesday. There is a small stream 5 minutes up the road that is supposed to have native Brookies in it. So I grabbed a pole out of the closet, pulled a few worms out of the garden, put my boots on, and headed up. The pole had a small jig with a 2” plastic grub, I forgot the bobbers, but I figured if the excursion ended up just a a walk in the woods, well, nothing wrong with that either. My boots are calf high and I wondered if they were high enough (spoiler alert-they weren’t 🥴)
In the 40 years I’ve lived here, I’ve fished this brook but never really seriously “fished” it before. I fished a few brooks in the area that look enticing, and didn’t get anything, but we live on the edge where the water gets just a tad too warm to support Brook Trout, so I never really put in the time to do it justice. You always go where the pickings are easier. But a friend who grew up in the area said a worm and a bobber would get you dinner. So I’ve wanted to give it a proper try.
A very pleasant and quiet morning it was. High thin clouds, warm enough for just a light jacket, but chill enough to keep the bugs at bay. Walking upstream were the signs of Spring: Woodpeckers peckering, a pair of ducks silently winging their way through the trees ang and the new generation of flora showing in areas recently covered by water. The pictures will narrate the rest of the trip. All in all, it was a good outing.

Little creeks like that is some good fishing around here if you can get a couple of miles back in the woods off the road 🎣🎣🎣
