I was thinking that a smaller room would be easier and cheaper to heat.
As my wife pointed out that while it has many amenities it doesn't have running water.
In the main house th primary furnace is right next to the water heater, both are gas, but require electricity to ignite the pilot
light. The stove is gas and can easily be lighted a long lighter. With extreme caution of course. Hooking up a small generator to the water heater and furnace is a great idea, but what size and type should I use for this project.
Please continue with your valuable suggestions. It means the world to me that so many of you have such wisdom to share.

What I used at my sons house was a Honda EU2200i…..it’s an extremely quiet generator with an idle down feature so when the load drops off, the units drops down to idle…the Hondas have an extremely tight voltage regulation as well as good frequency control..and Honda makes a paralleling cable so if need be a second generater can be paralleled for increased capacity..I arranged his furnace using a plug and cap so he can unplug the furnace from the breaker panel and plug into generator…..at our house I have a Honda EU6500 generator and had a panel added to our main breaker panel with critical loads on it…the “emergency panel” has transfer breakers to disconnect the main and go to generator..with interlock to prevent back feed into utility…the generator is in garage with extension cord and is wheeled outside when in use…strictly a manual operation but much cheaper than a whole house solution..the manual transfer panel is made by GE and has eight circuits plus the 50amp mains.Honda generators are not cheap but they are very reliable and easy to start…the 2200 watt has a pull cord, the 6500 has an electric start as well as pull cord..hope this gives you some direction!!

Hello stagers,
I just found out that my gas furnace has a electric pilot light ignition and won't work if the electricity is out.
In case of a power failure we can hunker down in a fully functional garage. It too has its own separate gas furnace.
My question to you is what should I invest in to heat a 16x20 space?
I'm already going to invest in a small propane camp stove/ oven from Bass Pro Shop.
I'm manly concerned about warmth in freezing weather.
If you have any recommendations or suggestions they would be much appreciated.

I’d recommend a 2kw Honda generator..set it up outside and hook up to furnace….gave my son my little Honda and used a plug and cap going to the furnace..so he shuts off the breaker to the furnace, unplugs the furnace and then plugs furnace into generator…works great on a gas fired furnace..

All my surf reels are Penn Slammers in assorted sizes…use mono backing and real pleased with Suffix 832 Braid in Coastal Camio on top…typically use 30# test braid and 30 or 40# mono backing…use 40# leader on the front end about twice the length of the rod with an FG knot…knots for braid are different…have several conventional reels as well…an old Penn Squidder (all mono) and a abu blue yonder…that’s got that braid on the spool with mono on top…birds nests are easier to untangle with mono…also watch your finger when casting as the braid will cut into you…most of my surf fishing is along the North Carolina area. Used to live in Jersey..fish for blues and stripped bass…used 20# mono back then on a Penn 700!!

Emerald Isle is a great place to fishing in the fall..the blues and mullet as wel as red drum are all in the surf…either shrimp or sand fleas (mole crabs) are great bait as well as fish bites (shrimp pink or mole crab white/orange). A blue fish rig is great as well (float with a 6” stiff wire and a split hook that you thread a finger mullet on…usually red/white)..started surf fishing there in 14 and last spring was our last trip there..stayed in the camp ground next to the public beach off coast guard road…were in canton area…originally from New Jersey and surf fished there in my younger years…

of course if we would ever become net producer of oil then we would not have to go hat in hand and ask them to produce more, and if Canada had a pipeline for them to pump and sell their oil on the global market that might help with the global price since opec would have more competition oh and another wild thought if we fast tracked bringing more refineries on line and did all we could do to produce more oil and natural gas instead of trying to shut it down just maybe we would have more control over the price of gas...just a thought

I am a strictly Penn products fishermen. They are the best... Penn just warranted two fishing rods.. They were very respectful and helpful.. They shipped the new rods very quickly.. Now I will go out and purchase two new reels for my newly acquired spinning rods..

I agree 100%….still use my Penn 700 & 710 that I bought back in the late 60ies when the first spinfisher came out…but have a bunch of new ones as well…all the Penn equipment is geared for surf casting…started fishing the surf in New Jersey island beach state park area and now retired travel to North Carolina….most of my rods are st croix..one of my fishing buddies broke his surf rod so sold him my 11’ penn prevail and gave him one of my old 700 greenies… he loves the combination!

I always use a leader with braid
Join the two using the Alberto knot.
It’s a little involved but very strong
Better yet, the FG knot is very thin and very strong.
Also very complicated to tie in my opinion.
I only tie this at home.
Bouncing around on a boat is just too difficult for me.

Do mostly surf casting in North Carolina…got suffix 832 braid on all my spinning reels with a mono leader….usually connect with the fg knot…I can tie it standing on the beach pretty easy but usually put my leaders on sitting next to the rv …tying an fg bouncing in a boat would be difficult…on my fresh water reels braid as well with a leader..I do pretty regular leader maintenance..for the terminal tackle use either a uni or palomer..

Will be in Ocean City, NJ on 2nd Street for 1 week in mid-Sept. I would like to try my hand at surf fishing on/near the 2nd St. beach. I am a very avid and experienced fresh water fisherman (in SW PA) but have zero surf fishing experience. Any helpful info is appreciated.

Your likely going to need heavier tackle than you use in fresh water…typically a rod between 9-12’ …my favorite is 10’6” with a reel that resists salt water..typically Penn …your going to be casting 2-4 oz sinkers..pyramid are best for the surf…hook and rig size can vary but typically mid sept will be blue fish and striped bass…that 2/0-4/0 hook size…fresh clams, squid, blood or sand worms on a 2 hook bottom rig should work….best bet is talk to local tackle shop for bait…in Jersey I really liked Hopkins lure (metal lure hammered finish looks like a knife handle). with a teaser buck tail about 12” in front..used to surf fish in Jersey when I was younger, now fish more in NC..

Hello everyone my name is Misty and I live in Ocean Springs MS. I have lived here for about 30 years. I am originally from Indiana. The fishing down here is a lot different from fishing up in Indiana. I love it on the Gulf Coast. it is one of the coolest places in the United States. The people are polite down here compared to Indiana.

I have fished when I was younger at Monticello Lake in Indiana but I had never saltwater fished before until I got down here. I am still new though. I have went deep sea fishing twice. The first time I caught some good sized Red fish but the second time I was in the cab sick the entire trip. I was so disappointed.

Here we are today. My name is Misty I am a single mother of three wonderful kids and grandmother of 3 awesome grandson. I love my dogs doc and lil bit. I am back to fishing again so if anyone has any pointers on how to to tie a fishing knot Nice to be where we ove he fish

Hi Misty
When I go out on a boat fishing….ocean, gulf or Lake Erie…I always take a Dramamine about an hour before the trip….never had a problem….I have gotten motion sick prior to using Dramamine and not fun!!
As far as knots…lots of videos on utube and will depend on what type of line your using…monofilament or braid…so are u planning on surf casting off the beach pier or from boat…never fished in your area so can’t help you beyond that…
Most of my salt water fishing has been from the surf nj, nc, fl…good luck
Tight lines!!

Consider the fact that bowling on a boat can be seriously effected by wave action, the home theater with appropriate seat belts would be a good diversion when the fish aren’t biting!
